GROYNES
To slow down the erosion of the coastline through longshore drift, erosion and to prevent flooding to the reclaimed land behind, groynes have been put into place between Fairlight and Rye Harbour.

GROYNES - LIMITED EDITION GICLEE PRINTS (2005-2007)
Textures and structures of the East Sussex coast
Rye Bay covers an area of 91 square kilometres in eastern East Sussex. It follows the valleys of the Rother, Tillingham and Brede rivers from the Cinque Port towns of Rye and Winchelsea. To the  the west of the bay is the historic coastal town of Hastings and Fairlight cliffs, to the east is Romney Marsh and Dungeness. The beach along this stretch of the coast is mainly shingle (apart from Camber sands) and characterised by the rows of timber groynes that hold back the pebbles. Pounded by the waves and the action of the shingle these splintered, faded and rust stained groynes  almost develop into individual sculptures. About the Area

An Ordinance Survey map is essential for any visit to Rye Harbour or Winchelsea Beach - From Rye a Network of footpaths lead past Camber Castle and across the dykes and the wildlife reserve to the Old lifeboat house and the beach.
Ryepress resources is an Amazon “Astore” in which I have gathered together a selection some of the Art Materials and equipment that I have used personally and can therefore recommend.
